The Mentorship Program is part of your Pre-College Scholars summer experience to provide a supportive platform for students to find the guidance and advice they need to make their summer session a successful one. Our program ambassadors serve as mentors during a variety of times and days for each summer session. The mentorship program has been designed so that students may meet with mentors on an individual basis. Individual meetings with mentors will be 15 minutes long and by sign-up only. The purpose of the mentorship program is to help students navigate their college-level coursework and receive meaningful advice on studying effectively, managing responsibilities within the program, and other topics that students may want to discuss.
How do I know who is my mentor?
You have the freedom to choose what mentor you feel will appropriately address your needs and struggles. Each mentor has a separate page on Cub Hub that describes their interests, academic fields, or experiences. Please navigate through each mentor’s page to learn more about them and determine which mentor you would like to work with. We will make recommendations of which mentor fits a specific academic field, but in the end, you are welcome to work with the mentor you would like. We suggest, however, sticking with the same mentor for the entirety of your summer session to establish a meaningful connection where your mentor will be able to help guide you more effectively.
Where do I sign up for the mentorship program?
Simply email any mentor you are interested in connecting with to ask questions (via email) or set up a Zoom call for an in-depth conversation. You can contact as many mentors as you would like.
What happens during mentorship times?
During mentorship times, you will work with your mentor to address whatever topics or needs arise at the time. For example, you may be seeking advice on how to navigate a difficult course that you are unsure how to be successful in as it is your first time taking a college-level course. In this case, your mentor will walk you through effective study strategies and help you explore what works best for you. If you continue to work with this mentor, they may continually check in with you to gauge whether the strategies are helping you or if you need further advice on managing the coursework.
