The “swap” function (combines add/drop functions) can be used to drop a class you are already enrolled in and simultaneously add a new course. This function first enrolls you into the new course and then drops you from your existing course giving you the security of staying in your existing course when securing a seat in their new course.
How to Swap
Log in to CalCentral and navigate to the My Academics tab and select the Enrollment Center option on the Class Enrollment Card.
Then select the option to Swap Courses from the side panel and follow the prompts based on what you wish to swap.
If you are enrolled in only one class, you must use the Swap function to switch to another class or add the new class first then drop.
Cost & Unit Value
You may swap your class with another class that has the same or different unit value.
More Unit Value: If you swap for a class that has more unit value than the one you dropped, you will need to pay the difference.
Same Unit Value: There is no cost difference unless it is past the refund deadline.
Less Unit Value: If you swap into a class with a less unit value before the refund deadline, you will automatically be refunded the difference. If it is after the deadline you will not be refunded the difference.
It is the student’s responsibility to swap (add and drop functions combined) course(s) before the refund deadline in order to avoid being charged for a class they do not wish to take. You can find all summer sessions' deadlines listed at summer.berkeley.edu/registration/schedule.
