Summer online courses are offered in either asynchronous or synchronous formats. The class notes for individual courses in the class schedule will indicate the type of instruction for that course. You can also sort summer online course listings by asynchronous or synchronous instruction.
Asynchronous courses consist of pre-recorded presentations and are available to students to watch at the time of their choosing. Asynchronous engagement may also include collaborative annotations, discussion threads, etc. Some classes with the "asynchronous" notation may be asynchronous only; others may have a synchronous option. Please see the class notes for each course for more information
Synchronous courses have components during the days and time that are specified on the class schedule. Participation may be in-person or remote, depending on the mode of instruction. Please see the class notes for each course for more information. All class meeting times are Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).
Note: As you search the course catalog, you'll find both "Online" and Web-Based" instruction types for summer. "Web-Based" and "Online" courses are all online courses, just with different naming conventions. For additional information on instruction types, visit the Office of the Registrar's Instruction FAQ.
